Geralt of Rivia looked good, moved smoothly, and responded swiftly to commands. There was just one problem: He was constantly sucker-punching the villagers of White Orchard. Over and over again, he raised his fists against tavern keepers, kids running in the street, and detachments of Nilfgaardian soldiers. That last one begat a brutal death. Sometimes, right after taking an unprovoked swing, the camera would furiously spin around my white-haired avatar, making me feel like I, too, had caught one in the head.

I played the latest version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on Asus' new ROG Ally handheld gaming PC ($700, available June 13, preorders start today) as a personal benchmark. Having completed the game three times previously (Xbox/PC/Switch, Yennefer/Triss/neither), I was looking to spot differences on this emerging platform. Asus' new device can run The Witcher 3 —and Assassin's Creed: Odyssey , Forza Horizon 5 , and Hitman 3 —more powerfully than the Steam Deck or almost any other "portable" device around, minus questionably portable gaming laptops. The device runs Windows, so it has fewer game compatibility issues than Valve's Steam Deck (however admirably far that system has advanced). What would make The Witcher or any other playthrough different on the Ally, a Switch-sized device that boasts 7–13 times the power of that platform ? "Random violence" wasn't the answer I expected, so I dug in.

My first thought was that the thumb sticks could be the problem, as they seem to have bigger dead zones and feel less sturdy than the ones on the Steam Deck. Or maybe it was pre-release video hardware reacting to a game known for uneven performance . I updated everything I could, recalibrated the sticks, and double-checked my in-game settings. I played the same build of the game on a Steam Deck with Windows loaded, in the same location, but couldn't recreate the problem.

OLED screens are slowly but surely making their way to desktops. The contrast-rich panel display tech is scattered across premium laptops, but when it comes to PC monitors, most options in the US are too big to fit on a typical desk. There are some, primarily from LG, but we need more options. The latest OLED looks to be the 31.5-inch ProArt PA32DC , which Asus announced Tuesday, and it will be available in October for $3.500.

Barring any surprise releases, the PA32DC should be the next member of a growing group of OLED monitors that can fit atop a desk. For a while, the OLED monitor space has been dominated by juggernauts and, even among the more moderately sized options, gaming displays . The PA32DC targets professionals and creatives to accommodate their office setup in a way that's rare for today's OLED monitors (the exceptions being LG's UltraFine series of 26.5-inch and 31.5-inch OLED monitors and portable monitors using OLED).

Asus' 4K OLED monitor has an impressive specs sheet, including 100 percent sRGB, 99 percent DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB, and 80 percent Rec. 2020 coverage. The display also foregoes a color filter, which Asus claimed helped the monitor achieve a color accuracy of Delta E <1.

Tout a été pensé pour faire gagner du temps : mises à jour automatiques, antivirus déjà intégré, ou encore une batterie solide (10 heures avec une seule charge).

Cet ordinateur portable embarque un écran NanoEdge de 14 pouces en Full HD, avec des bordures ultrafines et une définition correcte. Grâce à sa charnière de 180°, il est possible de le poser à plat. Un aspect bien pratique si vous souhaitez montrer le contenu de votre écran à quelqu’un en face de vous, notamment. Côté puissance, il s’appuie sur un processeur Celeron N3550, 4 Go de RAM, et 32 Go de mémoire flash EMMC pour le stockage.

Rappelons qu’il s’agit ici d’un Chromebook, et que seules les applications Android sont supportées. Vous ne pourrez pas installer de programme Windows ou macOS. En revanche, que ce soit sur le Web ou par le biais des logiciels déjà existants (Word, Excel, Chrome, etc.), de multiples possibilités s’offrent à vous.

Enfin, le ASUS Chromebook C423NA-EC0342 est un ordinateur portable tactile, qui bénéficie d’un clavier ergonomique avec une charnière Ergolift (qui réhausse un peu le clavier) pour un excellent confort de frappe. La connectivité est également assez bonne : on retrouve 2 ports USB 3.1, 2 ports USB C, un lecteur de carte micro SD, et un combo jack 3,5 mm. Le tout pour un poids ne dépassant pas les 1,34 kg.
