$270, 2,561-piece Lego Pac-Man arcade cabinet will eat ghosts, disposable income

    news.movim.eu / ArsTechnica · Monday, 22 May - 14:59

Lego's video game-themed sets for adults have focused mostly on home consoles and the Super Mario universe , but its newest set is turning its eyes to the arcade era. A new 2,561-piece Lego Icons set recreates the original Pac-Man arcade cabinet, complete with a hand crank on the side that makes Pac-Man, Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde move (along pre-determined paths) on its "screen."

The set will launch on June 4 for $270.

The Pac-Man set isn't a full recreation of the 1980 original—it looks more like a half-height bartop arcade cabinet rather than one that goes all the way to the floor—but the marquee, the controls, and the decals on the sides are all dead ringers for the old bright-yellow cabinet.

Dealmaster: Lenovo’s ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 tops our list

    news.movim.eu / ArsTechnica · Wednesday, 10 May - 20:52

From laptops to kitchen appliances and everything in between, we've rounded up some good deals on tech stuff you might want. If you're in the market for a new gaming laptop, an iPad, some Nintendo Switch games, or a robot smart vacuum to help keep the house clean while you sip on a freshly brewed cup of coffee from your new coffee machine, we have some options here.

Arguably the strongest deal we've found is for an up to 50 percent discount on Lenovo's excellent business-class ThinkPad X1 Carbon laptop. On the Mac side, you can snag some good discounts, including an M1 MacBook Air for $800. No, it's not the latest Apple Silicon chip, but it's still more than speedy enough for most people's use cases.

And while we do aim to help you save some money, not everything is about deals—if you're a Nintendo Switch user, you still have some time to preorder the next Zelda installment, Tears of the Kingdom .

May the 4th is here again—so save some credits on this Star Wars merch

    news.movim.eu / ArsTechnica · Monday, 1 May - 22:13

(credit: Star Wars)

It's almost Star Wars day, or so they say: Yes, we're talking about that genius marketing ploy to rebrand May the 4th based on a pun—well, it's not even a pun, really, but it sounds similar enough to elicit a smirk.

Some Star Wars fans might long for a bygone era when the franchise wasn't so commercialized as to have its own holiday, but if they're honest with themselves, Star Wars was always somewhere on that spectrum.

Still, the generational appeal of the universe George Lucas launched back in the late 1970s is as strong as ever—as is the creativity of the people making Star Wars tie-in gags and products that might remind you of your favorite film set in that universe. (Which is, of course, The Empire Strikes Back , we're sure. Or maybe Rogue One ? We can be confident it isn't Attack of the Clones or Rise of Skywalker , at any rate.)

Useful accessory upgrades for your MacBook Pro or Mac mini

    news.movim.eu / ArsTechnica · Thursday, 6 April - 13:00 · 1 minute

The latest MacBook Pro.

Apple’s latest 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros were released in January with new M2 Pro chips, alongside the new Mac mini with M2 and M2 Pro options. The range of configurations across these models offers users everything from a power-efficient document editor (though they'd certainly be overkill for that) to a full-on video and photo editing powerhouse.

Whichever you choose, you're likely going to need some accessories—that's the nature of things with any new PC purchase, but with Macs in particular. Given that, we examined a handful of accessories to complete the package and help you get the most out of your workstation.

Apple’s Magic Keyboard is my favorite keyboard pairing with either the MacBook or Mac mini. If you opt for the version with Touch ID, you gain the Apple-specific perk of unlocking your computer with your fingerprint. But aside from its Mac-compatibility, the main reason I use this keyboard is its battery life.

Dealmaster: 1-day-only Nintendo Switch, Microsoft 365 deals; plus PS5 and AirTags

    news.movim.eu / ArsTechnica · Monday, 27 March - 20:08

Side-by-side comparison for two handheld video gaming devices.

Kicking off the week, we have a couple of today-only sales, including a rare discount on Nintendo's Switch OLED and a free $50 Amazon gift card deal on Microsoft's 365 Family office software (with some major caveats). There are also price cuts on the PS5 God of War Ragnarök bundle and Apple's four-pack of AirTags.

Nintendo Switch OLED for $310 ( $350 )

Nintendo's Switch OLED is the best Switch console you can buy. In our review , we praised the larger, upgraded display's completely blacked-out pixels and infinite contrast ratio whether gaming before bed or during the day. We also appreciated the bigger, sturdier hinge, Ethernet-toting dock, and 64GB standard storage, as opposed to 32GB on other Switch models.

We still think the Switch Lite is an unbeatable deal in portable gaming for $200 , but for those among us who like the best of the best, the Switch OLED is the ultimate portable gaming device. With today's one-day-only $40 discount , it's a bit more affordable now, too. Samsung's 256GB microSD Evo Select is also on sale for $20 , which pairs well with the Switch for game storage.

Garmin’s Forerunner 955 review: Still king for runners and cyclists

Garmin’s Forerunner 955 review: Still king for runners and cyclists

If you're at all familiar with Garmin's wearables, you know that GPS-equipped running watches have always been the company's primary strength. Garmin's fitness watches have been a staple among athletes due to their features that aren't found on Fitbits and Apple Watches. The Forerunner series is still where the company introduces some of its most innovative tracking and training features.

The Forerunner 955 continues that tradition. It sits atop the Forerunner series as the most feature-packed watch in the bunch, and this year it gains some modern touches like a touchscreen and daily exercise readiness assessments (à la Fitbit's Daily Readiness feature, but free to users), while introducing new features not present on any other Garmin watch. That includes the higher-end Fenix series of watches, from which the Forerunner 955 is also starting to steal some cues, like solar-charging options and multi-band GPS.

We trained with the Forerunner 955 for a few weeks to see how its newest features improve on a platform we already love and to determine just how afraid Garmin should be about Apple or Fitbit catching up.
