The earliest sales pitch for Stadia , the Google streaming service that beams high-end video games to web browsers via the cloud, included the idea that it might work as simply as Googling your favorite game. You might search for a popular game to learn more about it, only to immediately see an option to start playing it inside your web browser, no additional hardware required—and perhaps no payment, either.

Nearly three years after Stadia's official launch —and 18 months after the service's massive internal downgrade —that scenario has finally begun to play out. What's more, the feature appears to be streamer-agnostic, as multiple Stadia-like streaming services have started appearing in search results.

This week, Google rolled out a limited launch of a "Play Now" tab that appears on searches for select video games on desktop browsers. (As of press time, out of three Google accounts tested, the search results shown in this article only appear on one of them.) This tab can be found in the right-hand "knowledge panel" that is otherwise automatically populated with user reviews, game details, and digital download purchase links.

Dernier écosystème à ne pas avoir accès à Google Stadia, Apple devrait bientôt bénéficier (enfin) d’une prise en charge optimisée du service de cloud gaming de Mountain View. Première surprise inattendue : la Pomme a ainsi réintroduit sur l’App Store l’application Stadium , un navigateur web imaginé par Google, qui permettait aux utilisateurs d’iPhone et iPad d’avoir directement accès au catalogue proposé par Stadia. Accessible dans sa version 1.2, le navigateur promet une compatibilité toujours de mise entre la machine et la manette officielle Stadia. En revanche, rapportent de nombreux joueurs, cette nouvelle version de Stadium s’avère beaucoup moins stable que la première en ce qui concerne la prise en charge des manettes Bluetooth, et notamment Xbox et PS4. Dans un billet publié sur son blog, le développeur Zachary Knox explique que “les contrôleurs Bluetooth peuvent fonctionner (…) mais iOS ne semble pas toujours transmettre l’information. Cela a fonctionné plusieurs fois, mais pas à chaque fois que j’ai essayé”.

Autre solution pour les abonnés Stadia sur iOS, Google pourrait très bientôt être officiellement optimisé sur les navigateurs Safari avec iOS 14, du moins si l’on en croit les informations du YouTubeur Gem Stadia, rapporte le site de 9to5Google . Le vidéaste aurait en effet découvert dans le code de Stadia, la preuve d’une prise en charge prochaine et optimisée pour le navigateur Safari. Ainsi, Google rejoindrait la désormais longue liste des services de cloud gaming contraints de contourner les restrictions imposées par Apple sur ses plateformes , en passant directement par le navigateur web de la marque à la pomme. Une solution déjà officialisée par Luna, le service de cloud gaming d’Amazon, ou plus récemment GeForce Now de Nvidia , désormais accessible sur iOS.

Google Stadia préparerait une arrivée optimisée sur iPhone et iPad

Project xCloud, the Microsoft game-streaming service that comes packed as a bonus in certain Xbox Game Pass subscription plans , may finally have a path to working on Apple's range of iOS devices—well after a public row between the tech giants that put the possibility into question.

The news comes from a report by Business Insider , which claimed that an internal Microsoft meeting on Wednesday included a vote of confidence from Xbox chief Phil Spencer. "We absolutely will end up on iOS," Spencer reportedly said about getting its streamed Project xCloud game content onto iOS devices in "2021."

Progressive policies

Previously, Apple shot down existing versions of both Project xCloud (which has since been rolled into the "Xbox Game Pass" app) and Google Stadia as iOS apps. Their public statements hinged on "reviewing" the games included in the subscription against App Store guidelines, though the issue could also stem from in-app purchases within both Xbox and Stadia's offerings. Eventually, Apple offered a revised stance on such apps , but this onerous "approval for every separate game" proposal comes with its own headaches, as opposed to a clear path toward a simple subscription service (as you'll find in popular iOS media apps like Netflix and Amazon Video ).
