Latest free games for Stadia Pro out now includes F1 2020, Hotline Miami

      Liam Dawe · news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Monday, 4 January, 2021 - 11:02 · 1 minute

As a new month has begun, Google has rolled out multiple new titles for subscribers of the optional Stadia Pro subscription. Here's what they are and what else is to come to Stadia.

While not quite as big as December 2020 which ended up giving Stadia Pro subscribers 9 games to claim overall, there's still some good stuff going in. New games available to claim right now include:

    • F1 2020
    • Hotline Miami
    • Figment
    • Ary and the Secret of Seasons

Additionally, they didn't announced it previously but El Hijo - A Wild West Tale is also now available in Stadia Pro to claim.

Meanwhile Celeste, Dead by Daylight, Embr, GYLT, Risk of Rain 2, and Rock of Ages III all left Stadia Pro at the end of December as Google previously announced. However, it appears that Jotun and Lara Croft GO also left Stadia Pro as well without being announced so it's possible the extra free game was to make up for it. Bit of an odd start for Stadia this year.

Here's the list of what you can currently claim free with Stadia Pro:

Cthulhu Saves Christmas, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds – Breakthrough Edition, Figment, El Hijo, Outcasters (exclusive), Submerged: Hidden Depths (exclusive), Secret Neighbor, Into the Breach, EVERSPACE, Monster Jam Steel Titans, Ary and the Secret of Seasons, Hello Neighbor: Hide and Seek, Sniper Elite 4, The Gardens Between, Human: Fall Flat Stadia Edition, Hotline Miami, République, HITMAN, HITMAN 2, Gunsport (exclusive), SUPERHOT: MCD, Orcs Must Die! 3 (exclusive), F1 2020, Crayta: Premium Edition (exclusive), Panzer Dragoon: Remake, Sundered: Eldritch Edition, SteamWorld Heist, SteamWorld Dig, SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech, SteamWorld Dig 2, Kine

For games releasing on Stadia through 2021 we know of some pretty big titles including:

    • DIRT 5
    • DISCO ELYSIUM - The Final Cut
    • HUMANKIND
    • Hitman 3
    • Journey to the Savage Planet: Employee of the Month Edition (will be free for Stadia Pro)
    • Outriders: Journey Into the Unknown
    • Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game

Chiaki, a free and open source PlayStation Remote Play client adds PlayStation 5 support

      Liam Dawe · news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Tuesday, 29 December, 2020 - 12:14 · 1 minute

Own a shiny new PlayStation 5 and want to stream games from it to your desktop or laptop? Or perhaps you're clinging onto your PlayStation 4 and want to do the same? Chiaki is here to help.

Linux gaming? Not quite but it's another brilliant FOSS application that can enable you to do whatever you want, with what you already own. I've used Chiaki occasionally with my own PlayStation 4 to stream it to my Linux desktop and for the most part, it actually works surprisingly well depending on the network setup.

The big Chiaki 2.0.0 update went out and pulls in some big features on top of PlayStation 5 support being new, here's some of the big features:

    • PS5 Remote Play Support
    • Add Nintendo Switch Borealis GUI
    • FFMPEG in builds updated to 4.3.1
    • Add Video Profile Auto Downgrade when 1080p is selected for PS4
    • Add correct Bitrate for 1080p
    • Relicense under AGPL v3 only + OpenSSL
    • Connect all available controllers in GUI
    • Add Double Click for Fullscreen in GUI
    • Add Audio Device Selection to GUI
    • Add Congestion Control
    • Add Raspberry Pi Decoder
    • Add Text Input Support to Library
    • Improve GUI CLI for streaming
    • Add Sleep Mode Trigger
    • Add generic Hardware Decoder Selection to GUI

There's also a good few bug fixes included as well of course. Great to see Chiaki continue to evolve, another case of a few doing what a big company will not.

Chiaki itself has also moved. The developer is no longer using GitHub, and is instead now providing everything up on their own sourcehut - which you can now find here .

Stadia Pro gets F1 2020 free in January 2021, all users can claim Crayta free right now

      Liam Dawe · news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Wednesday, 23 December, 2020 - 09:57 · 2 minutes

A few bits of big news to go over for Stadia followers on Linux, as there's new games released, free games, games on sale and a whole lot more.

Firstly, time is running out to spend the $10 / £10 credit that Stadia Pro users get as this will vanish in January 2021. This is the same credit they've had up for some time now so if you've already used it - there's no more but a reminder for anyone that hasn't.

Want some free games? Stadia Pro subscribers can claim the newly released Stadia title Cthulhu Saves Christmas. Additionally, Stadia Pro subs can also now claim the PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds – Breakthrough Edition bundle.

The Stadia team has also revealed what's coming to Stadia Pro in January 2021:

    • F1 2020 - Open-wheel racing at its finest!
    • Hotline Miami - A fast, visceral top-down shooter that rewards the quick and punishes the hesitant.
    • Figment - A musical journey through the mind.
    • Ary and the Secret of Seasons - A colorful action-RPG that encourages you to explore a mysterious world.

Sadly though, a few titles will be leaving Stadia Pro and so they will need to be purchased normally on Stadia if you do not claim them before the end of December 2020. The titles leaving Pro are: Celeste, Dead by Daylight, Embr, GYLT, Risk of Rain 2, and Rock of Ages III.

Additionally, these titles got released into the Stadia store:

    • Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light - Team up and take down the haunted ruins of the ancient world in this co-op take on Tomb Raider. Buy it on the Stadia store.
    • Enter the Gungeon - Shoot gun-related things with other bigger guns. Buy it on the Stadia store.
    • Reigns - Rule a kingdom one card at a time in this inventive blend of a god game and a card game. Purchase it on the Stadia store.

Stadia also has its own big holiday sale, with tons of huge titles discounted. Not only that, anyone (Stadia Pro not required) can claim Crayta: Premium Edition completely free to keep (100% off) until January 5. Don't know what Crayta is? It's like Roblox with Fortnite style graphics - a game where people make games, and lots of people play online together.

To add to all that, it seems Google has now expanded again, and they're letting people sign up and test for at least 30 minutes before any payment info is required. They still clearly want people to subscribe to Stadia Pro, and you get a free month but needing people to cancel that is a bit of a nuisance. Hopefully that will be relaxed even further as time goes on.

Ubisoft+ begins rolling out on Stadia for players in the US

      Liam Dawe · news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Monday, 14 December, 2020 - 22:31 · 1 minute

While the selection available to play on Stadia from Ubisoft isn't currently very big, Ubisoft+ has now started rolling out on Stadia and it doesn't need Stadia Pro either.

Interestingly, it integrates directly with the Ubisoft+ subscription itself. This is where you pay Ubisoft a $14.99 monthly fee, and then gain access to a library of their existing games and new games as soon as they're out. Linking your Google and Ubisoft+ accounts together will give you access to certain titles on Stadia now too. However, it's currently locked to the US (same as with Amazon Luna) likely because Ubisoft+ itself is still considered to be in Beta .

In other Stadia related news, it seems the service has been more popular lately. The deal they were running to get a free Premiere Edition bundle with Cyberpunk 2077 has been stopped early, due to "the overwhelmingly positive reception". It was due to run until December 17 but they formally stopped it December 13. There's been a lot of reports of it running well on Stadia too so that's good news for people who picked it up there.

Stadia gets direct to YouTube livestreaming, a new home page, new games and more

      Liam Dawe · news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Wednesday, 9 December, 2020 - 08:45 · 1 minute

It feels like over the last month or so that Google finally woke up on Stadia, as they have continued to repeatedly push out new features and content for the platform.

Firstly, Stadia now has a newer home page for when you're signed in. Originally, it simply gave you a navigation bar and then one single massive play button image with the the last game you played on Stadia. Not very useful, wasting a huge amount of space and it seems they realised that now. Instead, you now get the last game you played along with some useful other links in a new sidebar.

13115013021607502540gol1.png Still no search bar though, which is getting ridiculous now.

Interested in livestreaming but don't have the hardware, the technical knowhow or other hurdles blocking your way? Well, Stadia now has the ability to livestream directly from your game to YouTube. Google has fulfilled another early promise now with it being done at the click of a button. You still get a lot more use out of using something like OBS Studio but it's still a nice option for people to have.

Want more games? These are now live on Stadia as of now:

More are coming across today / midnight including:

    • Cyberpunk 2077
    • Watch Dogs and Watch Dogs 2
    • Unto the End

With Cyberpunk 2077 being one of the most hotly anticipated titles this year, it's going to be a true test of how Stadia works as a "next-gen" type of platform.

Additionally we have good news for Destiny 2 fans on Stadia, as Bungie have confirmed that full cross-play is coming in 2021. That will be good, as find a PvP match on Stadia can be an issue at times with the currently lower population.

You can use the service on Stadia.com on Linux through a Chromium browser. Also be sure to check out our latest YouTube Video , showing off some Outcasters livestreamed.

Google's game streaming service Stadia arrives in more countries

      Liam Dawe · news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Monday, 7 December, 2020 - 19:34 · 1 minute

Ahead of the Cyberpunk 2077 release, Google has expanded the list of supported countries for their game streaming service called Stadia.

In the blog post update from Samuel Peterson who is the "Head of EMEA Business Development" at Stadia, they confirmed these newly supported countries: Austria, Czechia, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia and Switzerland. If you already have a Google and/or Gmail account - you're good to go. It may take up to 24 hours for it to all roll out fully though.

Stadia as a service is entirely free to sign up and use like you would any other store to buy games from. Plus there's the optional Stadia Pro subscription to get free games (currently about 33), 4K support and extra discounts at times. There's also now some free to play titles like Destiny 2 and Super Bomberman R Online with more to come. Once in, you can also grab Stadia Pro free for one month.

You can use the service on Stadia.com on Linux through a Chromium browser.

For new users I would suggest checking out the new Stadia exclusive Outcasters . I've ended up personally putting quite a few hours into it, as it's actually a huge amount of fun. Trailer is below:

Stadia exclusives Outcasters and Submerged: Hidden Depths out now and free for Stadia Pro

      Liam Dawe · news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Thursday, 3 December, 2020 - 19:00

Today, Stadia did a livestream on YouTube to show off gameplay of new titles and make some big announcements. Along with that two new Stadia exclusive titles are live. Plus, we round up all the other news.

Firstly, Outcasters is a new Stadia exclusive title developed by Splash Damage with Stadia Games and Entertainment as publisher. It's out, right now, and it's free if you have the optional Stadia Pro subscription. You battle through colourful arenas in chaotic eight play shot-curving battles.

Six new games live for Stadia Pro, Super Bomberman R Online now free to play + more

      Liam Dawe · news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Tuesday, 1 December, 2020 - 17:21 · 1 minute

Another month and another fresh set of games for anyone with Stadia Pro, plus Stadia gets its second free to play game that anyone can play.

Firstly, if you subscribe to Stadia Pro you can claim these to keep while your sub remains active:

If it's not clear yet - Stadia Pro is an entirely optional subscription. You get to claim and keep free games, as long as your subscription remains active. If you stop it, you lose those games until you subscribe again and then you get them back - it works like PSPlus on the PlayStation. Otherwise, you buy games from Stadia like any other store.

Additionally, these games are launching on Stadia this week:

    • Outward – out now on the Stadia store for $39.99 / €39.99 / £34.99.
    • Chronos: Before the Ashes – out today on the Stadia store for $29.99 / €29.99 / £24.99. Seems the link they gave is not actually live yet.
    • Immortals Fenyx Rising – December 3 for $59.99 / €69.99 / £59.99 You can also try the Stadia-exclusive demo .
    • PHOGS! – December 3 (no pricing mentioned).
    • El Hijo – December 3 for $19.99 / €19.99 / £17.99.

We're expecting even more news soon too, since Google already confirmed more European countries will actually see Stadia supported before the end of the year. Additionally, there's plenty of hints that Rainbow Six Siege is coming to Stadia too since it was rated by the ESRB. Would be interesting, as it's another title that doesn't work on Linux through compatibility layers right now due to the anti-cheat involved.

As for other news, there's going to be a Stadia hang-out on their YouTube Channel on December 3 at 5PM UTC. Don't worry if you can't catch it, we will do our usual overview of any news that comes from it.

You can play Stadia games on Linux with a Chromium browser on Stadia.com .

Destiny 2 will be properly free on Stadia soon, get Crayta FREE now and much more

      Liam Dawe · news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Wednesday, 18 November, 2020 - 12:01 · 2 minutes

After recently announcing new features for Stadia like messaging and profiles (and possibly new country support coming), Google seem to be firming it up elsewhere with it being even easier to try out without buying anything.

Stadia has been freely available to everyone for a while now as store to buy games from for streaming, along with the optional Stadia Pro subscription to get access to regular free games. However, what if you just wanted to test it? Well now you're getting that chance.

On November 19 at 9 AM PT / 5 PM UTC, Destiny 2 will become properly free to play on Stadia so anyone with a Stadia account will be able to play it (without Stadia Pro). Along with this, Destiny 2: The Collection will be removed as a Stadia Pro title since it's going free to play on Stadia. This is pretty big, since having a game as big as this free for everyone could be quite a draw for Stadia for people unable to play directly on their system.

    New Games

    • PAC-MAN Mega Tunnel Battle , the odd but quite fun Battle Royale we showed off in a previous article is now live on Stadia for $19.99 USD / €19.99 / £16.99. It seems it is currently a Stadia exclusive.
    • Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate Edition is out now.
    • Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands will be available on Stadia on November 19.
    • Immortals Fenyx Rising has a free to play demo available again, and it's sticking around for quite some time until December 21 giving you another chance to try Stadia for free. Immortals Fenyx Rising releases in full on December 3.

Here's a short look at the demo of Immortals Fenyx Rising played on Stadia:

    youtube video thumbnail
    Watch video on YouTube.com

As part of their Stadia Makers program, they're doing a big sale currently on indie games with some great choices going cheap like the SteamWorld series, Celeste and more.

During this time you can claim a completely free copy of the Stadia exclusive Crayta as it's 100% off. If you do not have Stadia Pro, you will get the Crayta: Premium Edition but if you do have Stadia Pro you can get the Crayta: Deluxe Edition. This is not a free claimed game, this is free to "own" it and keep forever. A good time too, since they just completely overhauled the animations system.
