Prison Architect - Going Green and The Glasshouse free update out now

      Liam Dawe · news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Thursday, 28 January, 2021 - 18:24 · 2 minutes

Perhaps your prisoners in Prison Architect fancy growing something to pass the time? Give them the gift of green in Prison Architect - Going Green and The Glasshouse free update out now.

Most prison tend to a look a bit…depressing. Grey, lots of walls and just terrible. Now though you can give them a splash of colour and of course all this growing comes with its own type of contraband because no prison can apparently be without some kind of special herbs. Here's the list of what's new in the Going Green DLC

    • Fruits of Labor: Farming introduces a new type of Prison Labor, allowing prisons to grow potatoes, wheat, apples, and more. Produce can be exported or used as ingredients for inmate meals.
    • Room to Grow: Three outdoor rooms facilitate farming: Fruit Orchard, Farm Field and Vegetable Allotment. But that’s not all, players can recruit staff Farm Workers, build a Pantry to store produce, and construct a Shed to house farming-related items.
    • Best Buds: Inmates who enjoy nature’s beauty can grow flowers and other plants recreationally. Gardening affects inmates and gives them a positive recreation activity.
    • Trouble is Brewing: With new crops comes new contraband. Prisoners can now secretly grow herbs in the fields and swipe kitchen ingredients to brew Booze. Fields can also become Gang Turf, so keep your guards on alert!
    • A Greener New Deal: Prisons get an eco-friendly makeover with Solar, Wind, and Solar/Wind Hybrid power sources. Excess power created by these sustainable methods can be sold back to the grid using the Power Export Meter.

Vietnam joins Civilization VI in the next DLC for the New Frontier Pass on January 28

      Liam Dawe · news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Wednesday, 20 January, 2021 - 21:15 · 1 minute

Firaxis has confirmed the next DLC that forms part of the New Frontier Pass for Civilization VI will be releasing on January 28. Here's some highlights of what's to come.

While the full details are yet to be released, Firaxis did a developer update video to tease some of it. There's going to be a new civilization with Vietnam joining the world, two new leaders for existing civilizations (China and Mongolia), a new "Monopolies and Corporations" game mode with expanded economic options which sounds really quite interesting.

The new mode enables you to create an industry around duplicate resources. Industries will provide buffs to cities and as you get more resources you can level up your industry into a corporation, to further increase the buffs and then you can create products. You then have a Stock Exchange added to the Great Works system, to allow you to add in products to share buffs between cities and you can even create a monopoly on something which brings in vast amounts of tourism. Here's the full video if you wish to hear it all:

Once they do release the full patch info and DLC details, we will let you know.

What's to come next for Civilization VI? They officially have planned one more free update, and then the final DLC in March as part of the New Frontier Pass. After that, we have no idea.

You can buy Civilization VI with Linux support from Humble Store and Steam .

Prison Architect: Going Green announced for release on January 28

      Liam Dawe · news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Thursday, 14 January, 2021 - 17:10 · 2 minutes

Paradox Interactive and Double Eleven have announced the next expansion and free update for Prison Architect with the Prison Architect: Going Green DLC launching on January 28.

Seems like bit of a theme with Paradox published games. We had the Cities: Skylines - Green Cities DLC in 2017, the Surviving Mars: Green Planet DLC in 2019 and now prisons are going green too. You will be able to create a more environmentally friendly prison with farming and all sorts.

Here's the key features to expect from it:

Have a look at the announcement trailer below:

As for the free update everyone will see, this will be called The Glasshouse which will bring with it "additional objects, quickrooms, community improvements and two new top-notch employees - K9 units Shepherd and Bowtie Bandit." additionally Wardens can "create a more sustainable prison with Recycling Systems and objects like recycling bins or solar lights" and improvements to sorting methods and dump / demolition tooling - all of which has been highly requested by the community.

“Going Green continues Prison Architect’s history of riffing off popular prison fiction seen in movies, TV, and other media. This will be the third Prison Architect expansion we will have launched since Paradox took over the IP in 2019 and we can’t wait to see your latest creations,” said Steacy McIlwham, Product Manager for Prison Architect at Paradox Interactive. “The Glasshouse also kicks off a series of updates we will make to the game’s interface, starting with the dump and demolition tools, making it more user-friendly. We understand this is something the community has been asking about for a long time and we want you to know your voice has been heard.”

You can buy Prison Architect from GOG , Humble Store and Steam .

Dead Cells: Fatal Falls releases January 26 and gets a new trailer

      Liam Dawe · news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Thursday, 14 January, 2021 - 12:03 · 1 minute

Ready for more Dead Cells? I know I am! Motion Twin and Evil Empire have announced the Dead Cells: Fatal Falls expansion will release on January 26.

This is the third expansion, although only the second that's paid as Dead Cells: Rise of the Giant was released free and comes after over 20 major updates to the game that have been released free. At release, they're also putting up a 'complete the set' bundle to save you 15% on The Bad Seed and Fatal Falls DLC together.

So what to expect from Dead Cells: Fatal Falls? There's two new mid-game biomes, which are alternative paths to Stilt Village / Clock Tower and Slumbering Sanctuary / Forgotten Sepulcher. "One is the Fractured Shrines, which is a load of floating islands connected by ledges that are covered with traps and ready to drop you into the abyss below. When you're not falling you'll be dealing with pagan snake people and giant statues with even bigger axes. After that you'll enter The Undying Shores where you need to descend a cliff in the middle of a storm. Some caves offer a way out of the rain but they're full of weird experiments and undead healers, so good luck getting out!"

You're also going to be facing off against a boss at the end too, where you face off against a gardener who loves flowers and mushrooms apparently - with you being neither you're in for a fight.

To buy the DLC you can find it on GOG and Steam .

Plague Inc: The Cure DLC coming in early 2021 and free until COVID-19 is under control

      Liam Dawe · news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Friday, 18 December, 2020 - 21:52 · 1 minute

Ready to cure the world? Ndemic Creations have released another small bit of info for Plague Inc: The Cure, the upcoming expansion to the excellent Plague Inc: Evolved. We already knew it was coming and that it would be free for all players until they deem COVID-19 to be "under control". Now we know that it will be here in "early" 2021, and their new Steam page is up with some extra details so you can follow it along and wishlist it ready.

    2698634581608328185gol1.jpg

Here's the details from the new Steam page:

    • Hunt the Disease: Dispatch research teams around the world to find patient zero, track the spread of the outbreak and support local responses.
    • Control the Outbreak: Implement measures such as contact tracing, lockdowns and border closures to limit the spread of the outbreak, whilst getting people to wash their hands and preparing hospitals to prevent them getting overwhelmed.
    • Support the Economy: People won’t comply with poorly designed quarantine measures; use furlough schemes and other policies to drive community support and consensus.
    • Develop a Vaccine: Research, manufacture and distribute a vaccine to stop the disease. Work carefully and promote global cooperation to accelerate development.

I imagine the gameplay mechanics from the base game lend themselves quite well to the opposite side, so I'm really keen to see all the dedicated tweaks they're doing for it since they've been working together with health experts from various organisations including the WHO, CEPI and GOARN and they say that "Plague Inc: The Cure is an engaging and timely simulation of a global disease response".

You can buy the full game of Plague Inc: Evolved on Humble Store and Steam .

      Liam Dawe · news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Wednesday, 16 December, 2020 - 11:58 · 2 minutes

Caribbean Skies is the name of the latest DLC for the satirical city-builder Tropico 6, and not just that there's a new developer taking over development.

This is the biggest expansion yet and shows that Kalypso as a publisher is committed to continuing updating the game. There's also a fresh free update out for everyone which includes two new sandbox maps, a 'Tropico Papers' edict that super rich citizens no longer pay rent but instead send you 15% each month to your swiss bank account, a new emergency job ability to get stuff done quickly and some bug fixes. Realmforge Studios (Dungeons III, Spacebase Startopia) have also now taken over development, with this being their first Tropico 6 release.

    • Drones are here: Easily supply remote areas using Delivery Drones or use Drone Taxi for passenger transportation. Keep the people of Tropico under surveillance with Security Drones.
    • 8 new buildings: Get cargo planes and drones in the air with the Drone Factory, Battery Plant, Cargo Airport and Drone Delivery Service. Make use of the Drone Taxi Service, Central Intelligence building and Drone to Home Delivery Service to immerse yourself and your fellow Tropicans in all things drones. Balloon Tours give you the chance to offer tourists a new kind of attraction.
    • 4 new edicts: Gig Economy, Qult Anonymous, Drone Economy, Drone Recycling
    • 2 new traits: Drone Enthusiast, Qult Leader.
    • 3 new palace decorations: Keep your palace fresh with a miniature version of the mysterious SPEAKER. Show everyone you are a techie with a bunch of drones carrying Tropico flags. Use a smaller version of the inexplicable fertility bomb cannon to show everyone how modern agriculture is done.
    • New outfit: Good vibes only with the colorful new Banana Business Suit, featuring an all-over banana print.

Not only have Realmforge Studios taken over development of Tropico 6 from Limbic Entertainment, the publisher Kalypso Media has also now acquired 100% of Realmforge, so they are now a subsidiary of Kalypso Media Group. From the press release on this:

"The expansion and complete takeover of the shares is a logical consequence of our strategy to expand our own development resources not only in Germany but internationally. We are offering the highly qualified, motivated team in Munich the opportunity to focus exclusively on the further development of exciting franchises such as Tropico, Dungeons and Spacebase Startopia in the future," says Simon Hellwig, Managing Partner of Kalypso Media Group GmbH.

"Developing complex city-builder and strategy games with that special x-factor element, that are well-received within the community and the wider market on all platforms - that's something we do well. The Tropico brand is therefore a perfect fit for us" adds Christian Wolfertstetter, Realmforge.

"We are very fortunate to have had a strong and secure publishing partner in Kalypso for over 10 years, who supports us at all times and shares our philosophy. At the same time, it is a great honour and a great responsibility for us to have such an important franchise as Tropico in our hands" says Benjamin Rauscher, Realmforge.

You can buy Tropico 6 from Humble Store and Steam .

Dead Cells has sold over 3.5 million copies, Fatal Falls DLC announced for early 2021

      Liam Dawe · news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Friday, 4 December, 2020 - 10:23 · 1 minute

Evil Empire and Motion Twin have announced that Dead Cells is getting a brand new DLC in early 2021 and it seems they have a lot more coming to Dead Cells.

They've managed to sell over 3.5 million copies now, more than they ever expected and so they will continue supporting it. They mentioned with the previous DLC that they had at least 2 years worth of content coming and "that's still the plan". However, they indicate they probably have a lot more to come and we can expect to see more regular updates next year along with the Christmas Update 21 due "in a few weeks". Update 21 will have a new weapon, a new monster, a lore room, new skins, a new diet option and a few other bits. Something of a stocking filler until the DLC is ready.

As for the Fatal Falls DLC, see their new teaser:

It's looking like at release Fatal Falls will be around $4.99. Their DLC packs "help support the development of Dead Cells, i.e. allowing the free updates to keep dropping" while Motion Twin (since Dead Cells is handled by their newer company Evil Empire) work on a new game.

You can also see some teaser shot from the upcoming Fatal Falls below:

Oxygen Not Included - Spaced Out! to enter Early Access on December 8

      Liam Dawe · news.movim.eu / GamingOnLinux · Wednesday, 2 December, 2020 - 14:01 · 1 minute

Klei Entertainment are expanding their fabulous space-colony simulation game with the first full expansion in Spaced Out, which enters Early Access on December 8. I fear for my free time, as Oxygen Not Included sucks it away so easily.

They've said like any normal DLC it will require the base game (it's not a standalone) and be priced at $14.99. When it leaves Early Access, the price of Spaced Out may rise based on the growing size of it.

    11132731571606917431gol1.png

Currently the store page is not live, there's no trailer or any shots they've shared but they did give an explanation of what to expect from it:

In Oxygen Not Included: Spaced Out! you'll spearhead space missions to new and undiscovered Planetoids, transport resources between bases, and manage multiple worlds on the fly to build a megacolony that not only survives, but hopefully, thrives.

    New Multi-World Gameplay
Put your colony management skills to the test by juggling the needs of Duplicants in multiple colonies simultaneously. Switch between planets in real time and secure rare resources on other worlds to supply your home base.

    Expanded Rocketry
Customize new modular rockets to your liking, then explore the expanse of space with the newly overhauled Starmap. Huge expansions to the Research Tree provide new mid-game Rocketry options, giving your Duplicants an edge in the asteroid space-race.

    New Critters
Get acquainted with some new fuzzy friends - if you're nice, they might help you out around the colony!

New Resources, Biomes, Tech and More:
Tons of new biomes to explore, tech to research, and resources to mine. There's a whole new universe out there - discover it all in Oxygen Not Included: Spaced Out!

You can buy Oxygen Not Included on Steam .

While Klei have yet to put their own footage up on it, they have let a few YouTube Channels take an early look like Biffa Plays Strategy which you can see below:
